Envisioned
Make a statement with a bespoke creation tailored to your space. At The Spirit Within, we take unusual materials and unloved, tired furniture crafting them into unique pieces of art and furniture.
"Shi Shi Odoshi"
When we spotted the discarded pharmaceutical cleanroom ceiling HEPA filters stacked up waiting for disposal, the urge to recover some of them could not be resisted.
It wasn't long before two random thoughts collided and a mad idea came to mind....use the filter carcases as the pond for a water feature....
The Shi Shi Odoshi (Japanese deer scarer) slowly evolved into something, we are sure you will agree, special. The slow rhythmic dink-donk of the bamboo striking the specially selected stones alongside an exceptionally placed and planted rockery transforms the space into one of calmness.
"St Elmo's Fire"
Originally a frame for a balance bench in a laboratory, this piece is now a beautiful ethanol burner stand.
"Banksy's Girls"
The Banksy exhibition in London 2026 was the start of our passion and work with stencils.
Combining two of Banksy's well known works, this reimagination depicts the girls being drawn away by an unknown force (represented by the neon light). Within the balloons is a message Love Life. Activating the colour light options from the remote control highlights the different colour balloons as the colours cycle.
This piece is a perfect example of the spirit within guiding our hands
During the creation of this piece, an LED strip light was rested on top of the light and this is where it fell. The spirit within was quite clear on what it wanted to become. So a major redesign of the frame was undertaken to facilitate the flow of the LED Neon light strip.
The spirit within is certainly making its presence known in this piece; when illuminated, it appears to move!
"We will fight them on the beaches"
Our first commissioned piece.
Featuring Winston Churchill, spitfires and bleeding poppies; this piece was commissioned as a Father's Day present.
The LED used for this piece is a switchable cool light/daylight/warm light.
The design brief was given by the client with the final stencil design proofed and agreed before the work started.
"There ain't mushroom"
Commissioned as an anniversary gift, the design brief was simply; "she likes mushrooms" - the client and their beloved have a private joke around the phrase "there ain't mushroom".
As the potential design ideas were discussed with the client, the scope became narrower until the perfect design was conceived.
The final light StenciLED looks great on a wall, just like any other piece of quality art. However, the neon paints used to create the design are particularly effective at bringing this piece to life. The colours of the RGB Neon LED strip bring out the different neon colours used for the stencil and when a colour sequence is selected on the remote control the piece appears to dance.
"Bollock-Head - a man's best friend"
It is said, by some, that a dog is a man's best friend. How better can you remember a loved companion than illuminating them for all to see?
This commission, generated from a photograph, returned two pieces to the client. Quality always matters to us and when were not 100% satisfied with the result, another stencil set was created and version 2 was underway. The final product was definitely worth the extra work with Bollock-head (Yes, that's camaraderie for you) being clearly recognisable.
Avoidance of waste is at our core so the rejected first iteration, although not perfect, was offered to, and accepted by, the client FOC.
"The extinguisher cabinet"
A simple reimagining; only the front plastic screen was removed before mounting the cabinet on a fence where it became an excellent planter.
